Last Updated on October 10, 2020 by swisswatchreview

Whether or not you are a watch enthusiast, chances are that you have heard about Tissot. It is a legendary Swiss watch brand with a history spanning over 150 years and is certainly one of the most acclaimed watchmakers to have contributed to the industry.

The brand is responsible for some of the most revolutionary innovations in the watchmaking industry like the first ever anti-magnetic model and the first pocket watch with two time zones. Watches from this brand are some of the most high-tech and unique pieces that you can get at affordable prices.

In this article, we review the Tissot PR100, a modern watch that transitions easily from a dress watch to a casual wear watch.

Tissot PR100 Review

The Tissot PR100 is a highly versatile watch made by the brand. It is functional enough to be one’s everyday watch and elegant enough that you could wear it at special events. Through this watch, Tissot proves that elegance lies in simplicity.

The Tissot PR100 Dial

The PR100 has a simple HSMD – Hour, Minute, Second, Date dial. The face is deep blue and hands and time markers being light in color, they stand out. As it is a dress watch, the simplicity of the dial really matters. It achieves elegance really well. There is a tiny writing on the dial – the Tissot logo below the 12 o’ clock position and the model of the watch above the date. Just above the 6 o’clock position, there is a date window. It is white with Arabic numerals and easy to notice. It is possible to adjust the date with pull/push crown. All the hour and minute markers are indices and contrast beautifully with the dial’s face to be easy to notice.

The hands also have a simple design – the hour and minute hands resemble thick baton hands while the second hand is a classic baton. Due to the contrast between the dial and the markers, it is easily visible in the daylight. The dial is covered with sapphire crystal glass. It is scratch-resistant and this is desirable for those who want to wear the watch on a daily basis. The glass performs well with everyday wear and scratches and looks good as new for a long time.

The Case and Bracelet

The case, as well as the bracelet of the Tissot PR100 watch, is made out of stainless steel. The outer ring has a high shine and is polished, adding to the elegant appearance of the watch. Other parts of the case are brushed stainless steel with a matte look. The case is made from marine grade, 316L stainless steel with less carbon as compared to normal stainless steel. This makes it corrosion-resistant.

The case of Tissot PR100 is 39mm wide and long and 9.5mm thick. It is somewhat smaller when compared to watches like Seiko Samurai with larger case. This makes it ideal for even those who have small wrists. The case has a pull/push crown at 3 o’clock which is polished featuring a T letter, elegantly branding the model. The back of the case is polished, shiny and features the information you won’t see on the dial. It includes the Tissot logo, watch model number, bracelet and glass materials and water resistance indicator.

The width of the bracelet is 20mm. It features an interesting design with three rows of links. The outer row links are matte while the inner row is high shine. This gives the watch a sophisticated, stand out look. There is also a matte clasp with T printed on it. The push-button folding clasp is quite secure due to the double buttons and it is easy to take on and off. The clasp has five holes allowing you to adjust the length of the bracelet to get the right fit.

The Tissot PR100 Quartz Movement

Though quartz movement is the most basic for watches, it is actually the most reliable as it is the most accurate type of movement. Tissot’s quartz movement has a tolerance of -0.5/+0.7 seconds per day. The PR100 watch comes with a Renata 371 battery that keeps it running for years. Unlike Japan-made watches priced similarly, the movement of this watch has hack seconds function and quick set date. The quartz movement can be smaller and make the watch thin and lightweight, suiting everyday use. This makes it ideal for any occasion and it can slide under the sleeves easily if needed.

Water Resistance

While the Tissot PR100 is not a dive watch, it has some of the characteristics of that type. It has a lume that lets you easily keep track of time when underwater. And it is also water-resistant. It offers a water-resistance of up to 100 meters and can suit diving and other activities underwater.

Final Thoughts

With a battery life of about 2 years and an End of Life indicator, the Tissot PR100 is a quite versatile watch that suits dress as well as casual wear. The case, dial and bracelet are all designed to be elegant with sophisticated touches. The mixture of high shine and matte finishes of the steel really makes the watch stand out. It is a recommended model for anybody who loves Swiss design and looking for a simple, elegant and affordable timepiece.
